The Global Sports Academy Launched in Tirana
Yesterday at the Chateau Linza Resort Hotel in Tirana a room full of men, women children, athletes, lawyers, professors, teachers, businesspersons, publishers and students witnessed the unveiling of the world’s first global sports academy.
The participants were welcomed by Dr. William Maxwell, a Harvard-educated professor, and the founder of the Academy. The first speaker was Attorney Arten Bozo of the TBI Consulting firm in Tirana. Attorney Bozo announced that the Global Academy was now fully incorporated and registered by the Government of Albania. The remaining legal task, he said, was to obtain accreditation by the Ministry of Education which his firm was committed to completing.
Professor Maxwell then spoke of the economics of education, pointing out that children learn 65% of all that they will ever know before age 6. It follows logically from that, he said, that families and governments would be wise to invest more in that critical period than when the child is past 18 years of age when learning is more difficult and much slower. Therefore he promised that his academy would offer salaries exceeding those of universities. “We have more Ph.D.’s on our staff than children enrolled,” he joked. He said that he and his staff will begin interviewing students and their parents on September 21 at the Chateau Linza which will be the temporary home of the Academy.
The Academy will start with a Junior School for children ages 3 1/2 to 6. Within three years, Professor Maxwell said, the Academy will begin its futuristic residential Senior School for 12 year olds. Professor Maxwell then introduce the Faculty, largely Ph.D.’s.
Dr. Dorothea Martin next spoke of how the Academy will develop talent. She pointed out that wise parents and trained teachers can spot a chlld’s “true calling,” or talent indicators, much earlier than traditionally believed. Typically, before age 6, she said.
Once the child knows his or her probably talent profile, learning becomes much easier.
Joining in welcoming the academy to Albania were Dr. Olsi Baze, a professor of International Relations at Kristal University, and his wife, Mrs. Albana Canollari, also on the faculty at Kristal. Mrs. Mirela Sula Strugaj, Publisher and Editor of Psikostyl magazine, joined in the welcome. Others attending included a representative of the business community, Mr. Payam Payman and his wife, Elham; a representative of the Russian embassy and the owner of a publishing house here, Dritan.
The Chateau Linza catering staff prepared a beautiful table of specimen healthy foods that the children at the Academy will enjoy three times a day.
